At FMS, we’re proud to support industries that keep the country moving — quite literally. Our recent project with Gemini Rail Services in Wolverton involved upgrading flooring in one of their facilities, helping to improve hygiene and durability in a key area of their site.
The Challenge
Gemini Rail Services is a leading provider of train refurbishment and maintenance. Their Wolverton site, steeped in industrial heritage, remains central to their operations. As part of their commitment to maintaining high standards across all aspects of their facilities, they identified a bathroom area where the existing flooring was no longer suitable for the environment.
The existing floor used interlocking rubber tiles. While practical in some settings, the gaps between the tiles can pose an issue in wet environments like bathrooms, allowing water to seep through and potentially cause long-term damage.
Our Solution: Seamless Vinyl Flooring
Gemini approached us to deliver a more robust and long-lasting flooring solution. We carried out a full site survey with our expert flooring team, carefully assessing the condition of the floor and surrounding space. Following this, we submitted a detailed quote, which was approved.
The Installation Process
The project was completed over five days and involved the following steps:
- Removal of existing flooring – all interlocking tiles were removed and disposed of.
- Floor preparation – we addressed areas of unevenness and fully screeded the surface.
- Moisture protection – two coats of self-levelling latex compound were applied to ensure the floor was smooth, level, and protected against any damp issues.
- Vinyl installation – we laid a heavy-duty, non-slip vinyl flooring specifically designed for high-traffic and wet environments. The material provides a seamless, waterproof finish that’s ideal for industrial settings like Gemini’s.
Outcome and Client Feedback
The project ran smoothly from start to finish. Our team delivered the work on time and to a high standard, and we’re pleased to report that the client was very happy with the result. This was our first time working with Gemini Rail Services, and we’re hopeful that this marks the beginning of a strong ongoing relationship.
