FMS’ MATT COMPLETES DOUBLE MARATHON CHALLENGE FOR YMCA MK

Everyone at Facilities Management Solutions is incredibly proud of our Business Development Manager Matt for completing the YMCA Double Marathon Challenge on Friday (08/03).

The Double Marathon consisted of a 26-mile walk, followed immediately by a 26-mile bike ride, both around the city!

Matt was joined by a group of residents and volunteers from YMCA Milton Keynes, as well as the rest of our FMS team who rotated throughout the day to share in the experience and find out more about the fantastic work that the charity does.

Matt said: “This was the first time that I’d had the opportunity to really chat with some of the people who either volunteer for YMCA or receive their support, and it was truly eye-opening.”

“Sometimes young people get off to a difficult start in life, and when that happens, it’s so important to have support to right the ship. That’s exactly what the amazing team at YMCA Milton Keynes do. They offer a second chance at stability, and new opportunities for them to start fresh.”

Despite only hearing about this event with one week’s notice, Matt was determined to get involved. He wanted to help to raise awareness and also encourage people to donate to the JustGiving page, which has now received over £1,000 in donations!

Matt was repping FMS, but also donned the distinctive purple YMCA t-shirt throughout his 52-mile challenge.

The route took the group all across Milton Keynes, starting at the YMCA in the city centre before walking down to the southwest and back, and then cycling up to Willen Lake for several laps, before finishing again at the YMCA building.

After starting bright and early, the group were at it all day – some people popping in and out – not finishing until after 6 o’clock in the evening!

Matt was one of the select few who were able to complete the entire 52 miles, a testament to both his stamina and the quality of company and conversation.

He said: “The best thing about today was getting to talk to so many different interesting people. Everybody has a different story, and it’s inspirational when you’re able to take some time and hear them.”

“One of the volunteers who just walked and cycled with us all day – 50 miles – they’re about to go and do the nightshift at the Y… That really highlights just how dedicated these guys are.”

We put together a recap video to share some highlights from the event, which you can watch here:
