It’s a proud and exciting milestone for the team at Facilities Management Solutions (FMS) as we officially open the doors to our brand-new office in Knowlhill, Milton Keynes. This move marks not only a new chapter in our journey but also a celebration of our growth, resilience, and commitment to delivering exceptional facilities management services across the region.
Where It All Began
FMS was incorporated in January 2021 as a sister company to Plumbing & Gas Solutions (PGS), which has been serving the commercial sector since March 2010. Over the years, PGS built strong relationships within the FM industry. Many of our clients were requesting a broader range of services — and we often found ourselves recommending trusted trades we worked alongside.
The natural solution? Create our own facilities management company — one built on the same trusted values, service-led approach, and local expertise. The timing aligned with the challenges of the pandemic, when diversification became key to maintaining essential services for clients. FMS was born out of opportunity and has thrived thanks to a clear vision and a deep understanding of the commercial property landscape.
A Natural Evolution
With a foundation firmly rooted in commercial experience, FMS quickly gained traction. We understand how complex running a commercial property can be — the multiple hats you need to wear, the pressures of compliance, safety, and efficiency. Our approach is holistic: from grounds maintenance and roofing to mechanical and electrical services, we offer complete property support.
Our work has evolved to include energy consultancy too — helping clients reduce their environmental impact with solar solutions, EV chargers, and energy usage analysis. Every business is different, and our job is to tailor solutions that make sense for each unique client.
From Industrial Estate to Central Milton Keynes
Our original shared premises were designed for a very different setup — racking, storage, a showroom, and a small office area for the PGS team. As FMS grew, so did the need for desk space, and the office gradually took over. Eventually, we outgrew the unit entirely.
That’s why we took the leap and invested in our own dedicated space in Knowlhill — a vibrant, open-plan office with room to breathe, collaborate, and expand. Situated in a lovely part of Milton Keynes near the lake, the new premises provide a much-improved working environment for our growing team, and a hub that reflects who we are and where we’re heading.
The move wasn’t without its challenges. Even with the best-laid plans, there was an unexpected overlap between vacating the old site and taking ownership of the new one. We are incredibly grateful to our client Yamaha, who generously provided temporary office space during the transition. A big thank you also goes to Freeths Solicitors, Louch Shacklock, Metro Bank, Aureum Finance, and the wider support network who helped make the move happen.
All dilapidation works on the old premises from mechanical and electrical to redecoration, were carried out in-house by our fantastic team, all while managing the fit-out of our new offices, including lighting, kitchen installation, and more.
People, Partnerships, and Purpose
The relationship between our founders, Carl and Dan, has been central to the success of FMS. They first met through MK Dons and later crossed paths again through All Things Business. Carl recognised Dan’s talent and experience as an ideal fit to help lead and grow FMS.
What sets us apart from national providers is our local focus and client-first approach. As Dan puts it: “We genuinely look after our clients. There are no retainer fees, so there’s no risk. And because we only work locally, we can react far quicker than national firms.”
It’s a model that creates a circular local economy. Large global businesses invest in us, and we reinvest in Milton Keynes and the surrounding areas — employing and training local people, using trusted local trades, and supporting local initiatives. From MK Dons and the Theatre, to MK Food Bank and Arthur Ellis, we’re proud to give back. Whether it’s charity walkathons, gardening, or litter picks, we’re always keen to be part of the community.
What’s Next?
We’re expanding our services into Northampton and exploring sustainable growth opportunities across Bucks, Beds, and Northants. Our long-term goal is to continue working locally while maintaining exceptional standards of service.
We’re investing in people, growing our in-house team of accredited specialists across health and safety, tenders, and technical delivery. By placing dedicated, static engineers with larger clients, we’re able to offer an ultra-responsive, tailored service that meets the day-to-day demands of modern commercial properties.
The move to our new office is more than just a change of address. It’s a symbol of our growth, our values, and our unwavering commitment to delivering expert facilities management solutions — built on trust, integrity, and a deep understanding of what our clients need.
